SLIPPERY ROCK — Redshirt senior strong safety Derek Morgan (Clearfield) made two solo stops as Slippery Rock (2-0) upheld its No. 21 ranking by the American Football Coaches Association with a 34-9 victory over East Stroudsburg (0-2) at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium Saturday night.
A crowd of 6,237 at the NCAA Division II Showcase Game of the Week saw The Rock’s defense keep their Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover rival out of double digits for the first time since 2008.
Morgan has been involved in nine tackles, six of them solo, and broken up one pass.

GREENSBURG — Senior running back Beau Swales (Clearfield) topped the Lock Haven (0-2) ground game with 39 yards on nine carries in the Eagles’ 27-10 loss to Seton Hill (1-1) Saturday afternoon.
Swales also had two pass receptions for eight yards in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover clash that attracted 1,250 fans to Offutt Field.
His two-games stats show 14 carries for 86 yards and four receptions for 21 yards.

CLARION — Senior longsnapper Eric White (Clearfield) did his job 11 times for the Clarion punt, extra point and field goal units Thursday night when the Golden Eagles moved to 2-0 by holding off winless Millersville 27-21 with 3,500 fans in attendance for the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover game at Memorial Field.

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Sophomore free safety and special teamer Christian Lezzer (Clearfield) assisted on one tackle for Boston College’s defense that turned in a shutout while the offense was rolling up the second-most points in program history for a 76-0 win over Howard at Alumni Stadium Saturday.
A crowd of 26,132 saw the Eagles (2-0) tune up for their Atlantic Coast Conference opener against nationally-ranked Florida State that will be televised by ESPN starting at 8 p.m.

BETHANY, W.Va. — Freshman linebacker Dusty Maines (Clearfield) began his Thiel career with a tackle for a seven-yard loss late in the Tomcats’ 51-16 loss to Bethany with 654 fans on hand at Bison Stadium Saturday night.
The Tomcats are 1-1.

OWINGS MILLS, Md. — Freshman linebacker Nick Kovalick (Clearfield) and defensive lineman Brad Stubbs (Curwensville) played in their first game for Lycoming Saturday when the Warriors had their Middle Atlantic Conference opener spoiled by Stevenson.
The Mustangs sent the majority of the 1,587 fans away from Mustang Stadium celebrating the first win over the Warriors in five meetings.
The 38-14 setback left Lycoming 0-2 for the first time since 2007.

MEN’S GOLF
MEADVILLE — Sophomore Jason Thorp (Curwensville) posted rounds of 81 Sunday and 78 Monday at the Country Club of Meadville to help Thiel finish seventh among the nine teams in the 42nd annual Guy W. Kuhn Memorial Tournament hosted by Allegheny College.
Tied for 34th after the first day, Thorp moved up to a tie for 28th with his improved second trip around the par-72 layout.
Two of his Tomcat teammates finished higher, Jeff Jenkins seventh with a 153 and Cody Slevin tied for 28th with a 158.
Thiel hurdled two teams with Monday’s 306 score for a 630 total.

WOMEN’S SOCCER
CLARION — Sophomore forward/defender Carlee Freeburg (Clearfield) made two more starts for Clarion in a 4-2 road win over Pitt-Johnstown last Wednesday and a 1-0 loss at California Saturday evening.
The Golden Eagles are 1-3 after their first four Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference games.

ERIE — Sophomore midfielder/defender McKenna Aleksivich (Clearfield), sophomore defender Katie Powers (Clearfield) and freshman midfielder Tessa Munshower (Clearfield) saw action in reserve roles in Penn State Behrend’s loss at Houghton (N.Y.) on Tuesday, Sept. 8.
Munshower also played Friday when the Lions ended their three-game slide with a 3-2 victory over host Fredonia (N.Y.) in the Blue Devil Classic Friday.
The Lions defeated Oswego (N.Y.) State Saturday to claim the Blue Devil Classic championship.
