Former Cashier Sentenced for Taking More than $15K

CLEARFIELD – A Philipsburg woman who took more than $15,000 while working as a cashier was sentenced in Clearfield County Court.

Ann Marie Musselman, 42, pleaded guilty to theft by unlawful taking for her actions while she worked at the Country Convenience Store in Morris Township in 2013. She was sentenced to six months to one year in jail and six years consecutive probation.

This case was continued from last month’s sentencing court so Musselman could be evaluated by a doctor. A report stated that she was not a candidate for the county jail. She will serve her sentence on house arrest.

Judge Fredric J. Ammerman warned her that if she comes back on a probation violation he would sentence her to state prison.

She must pay restitution of $15,232.32 to Christoff Mitchell Petroleum and she was fined $200 plus costs. Ammerman put her on a payment plan of $40 per month.

The charges stem from incidents in Morris Township between September and November of 2013.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, if a customer paid for gasoline with cash, she would use the cash to buy instant lottery tickets. If she had a winner, she would take the cash from the register for the winnings. During this time, it was noticed that the amount of gasoline on hand was found to be inaccurate due to these activities. An internal investigation used video camera footage to confirm Musselman was stealing from the company. Her employment was then terminated.

The amount of gasoline missing was more than 4,700 gallons with a total value of $15,232.32.
