Warren L. Fox died Thursday, Sept. 10, 2015 at his residence surrounded by those whom he held most dear. He was aged 80 years, five months and 22 days.
Born March 19, 1935 in Curwensville, he was the son of the late Vern and Elizabeth Stauffer Fox. He was reared on Reed Street in Clearfield.
Mr. Fox was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served three years with the Third Armored Cavalry in Germany, at which time he traveled extensively throughout Europe.
He was a graduate of the Art Institute of Pittsburgh. He retired after 35 years in sales at Kurtz Bros. in 1999.
He was a cordial man who took great delight in a simple meal with his friends. He was mild-mannered and unassuming, and he had a steadfast conviction in his conservative values.
He could always be counted on to give a candid and frank response to the issue at hand. He will always be remembered as an affable gentleman by all whom were blessed to have known him.
Mr. Fox was a founding member of the Central Mountains Region Antique Automobile Club. He was also a member of the Sykesville Hunting Club, the B.P.O.E. Lodge 540, the Golden Bison and the United Commercial Travelers.
He attended the Clearfield Presbyterian Church.
He received numerous awards from various organizations over the years, including the Clearfield County Historical Society for meritorious service in 1982, 1998 and 2009, the Clearfield Rotary Citizen of the Year in 2012 and the Clearfield Area Chamber of Commerce Directors’ Choice Award for his commitment to the betterment of the Clearfield County community in 2015.
He was a director emeritus of the Clearfield County Historical Society, where he served as chairman of the Publications Committee for many years. The CCHS’s large collection of books and reprints currently for sale are due mainly to his efforts.
One of his crowning achievements was the indexing and reprinting of the 1878 Caldwell’s Atlas. After his retirement, he could be found at the museum on a daily basis. In the CCHS’s new William B. Alexander V Research Center, the Warren L. Fox Research Room was named to honor his nearly 40 years of devoted service.

He is also survived by three sons, James and his wife, Donna and their son, Joel; David and his wife, Heather and their children, Elijah, Carrie and Senna and Eric and his daughters, Victoria and Tesla.
He is also survived by a brother, John Fox and his wife, Gloria and a sister, M. Jean Fox, all of Clearfield.
