CAST’s 2015 Season Continues with New Programs and Events

CLEARFIELD – Clearfield’s downtown arts center is turning the page on a new chapter.

The story caps off its regular season with two previously scheduled shows. The plot continues with many “exciting, new” programs, events and educational opportunities.

The Clearfield Arts Studio Theatre’s storyline is familiar with the 2015 Subscription Series, including two shows completing the season: William Shakespeare’s The Comedy of Errors (Oct. 15, 16, 17 and 22, 23, 24) and A Charlie Brown Christmas (Dec. 3, 4, 5 and 10, 11, 12).

Curtain time is 7 p.m. These shows replace previously scheduled productions of The Queen of Bingo and The Children of Eden.

Season ticket holders are asked to please call the CAST at 814-765-4474 to confirm reservations prior to Oct. 1. CAST volunteers want to assure you get your favorite seats.

Auditions for The Comedy of Errors are open to everyone. No experience is necessary and no preparation is needed to attend Sept. 13 from 2 p.m. – 5 p.m. or Sept. 14 from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.  Shakespeare’s shortest, funniest farce is full of slapstick humor and a rollicking good time.

The CAST’s annual Fall Bike & Hike through Parker Dam State Park is Oct. 4 from 1 p.m. – 4 p.m. Participants get to ride, walk, skip or run the forest roads surrounded by all the natural beauty.

Like any good plot, that of the CAST has new adventures on the horizon. The CAST music series, classes, Summer Arts Academy, a Youth Theatre Company, Clearfield Choral Society, Sunday Shakespeare Close Readers Group and more are in the planning stages.

Over the next year, the CAST volunteers will aim to hold 15, new programming events.  The public is asked to stay tuned for highlights on the coming chapters.

Five, free Monday night theater sessions from 6 p.m. – 7 p.m. will start Sept. 21 with Acting Basics.  Here, you will explore sessions on “Voice for the Stage,” “Directing,” “Stage Management” and learn the answer to: “What is Dramaturgy?”

Participants are asked to arrive no later than 5:50 p.m.  The first 10 interested thespians participate.

Friday Night Live will return Oct. 2 at 7:30 p.m.  Every first Friday of the month (apart from Dec. 18 and Jan. 8 shows nights), acts will participate in the Open Mic Variety Show. Also, the public can simply enjoy community talent in the newly rejuvenated lobby, stage and green room. Tickets are $5.

A Halloween Extravaganza will haunt the CAST on Oct. 26-31. The Tower of Horrors Haunted House opens its doors from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7 p.m. – 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday.  Entrance is $5 per person.

On Halloween, the Alley of Wares begins at 11 a.m. with a silent auction, food and more. A CAST Halloween Bash teen dance party for ages 13-20 years is slated from 7 p.m. – 10 p.m.  The ticket price is $5.  Discounted Haunted House tickets will be available for all CAST Halloween Bash participants.

Blues Jam returns to the CAST on Black Friday, Nov. 27, at 7:30 p.m.  You can join the reunion of Joel Mack, Jason Sopic, Richard Horton, Calvin Walls, Mary Beth Geppert and many more guest artists.

But that’s not the whole story. Interest in reforming the Clearfield Choral Society and Clearfield Community Theatre revisits tales from the CAST‘s past.  You can visit the Web site, www.ClearfieldArts.org, and complete the volunteer form to find out more about start-up plans.

Are you an arts’ leader? Are you interested in energizing the arts within the community?  An Artist Round Table Discussion, focusing on “Collaborative Clearfield Arts” is happening Sundays Nov. 29 and Dec. 27 from 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.  You can join local arts leaders to plan the next chapter in Clearfield Arts’ story.

The CAST is seeking to find those who love the arts to take part in its rejuvenation. Of course, monetary donations can be accepted at the CAST, P.O. Box 613, Clearfield, but as the volunteer ethos is part of the CAST’s culture, the assistance of those who give of themselves is also needed.

For information on how to volunteer, contact the CAST Inc. at 814-765-4474 or ClearfieldArts@gmail.com.  Visit the CAST Web site at www.ClearfieldArts.org.

Tax-deductible contributions are accepted at CAST Inc., P.O. Box 613, 112 E. Locust St., Clearfield, PA.
