Brookville Town Square Project Takes Next Step, Thompson Says

BROOKVILLE – U.S. Rep. Glenn ‘GT’ Thompson (PA-05) yesterday visited Brookville to congratulate local officials and community leaders for securing funding for a long-awaited park.  The final $150,000 in grant funding for the Historic Brookville Town Square project was announced earlier this summer.

“This is a significant step forward for the Historic Brookville Town Square project,” said Thompson.

“When paired with funds from the Commonwealth and local contributions, this project represents a great public-private partnership, stemming from more than a decade of hard work.  I commend the community and all those involved in making this vision a reality,” added Thompson.

The Historic Brookville Town Square project has also received $380,000 from the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources along with $315,250 from Historic Brookville Inc., through the fund raising efforts of board members Barb Conti and Pam Elkin.

Local businessman and HBI board member Jack Demotte added, “The support from the community was overwhelming.”

Additionally, HBI board member David Taylor, who served as the draftsman for the grant said, “When combined with the rail-trail and the planned restoration of Marlin’s Opera House – after the town square is completed – this will be a significant ongoing economic development component in Brookville’s long-term community planning.”

HBI board member Gene Hoak added, “Congressman Thompson has been a strong advocate for this project from the very beginning. This grant could not have happened without his support.”

Historic Brookville Inc. was established in 1982 as a nonprofit corporation to serve as the advocacy organization to promote the preservation, rehabilitation and re-use of Brookville’s historic architectural heritage.
