Richard D. Selfridge, 89, of Olanta died Monday, Aug. 31, 2015 at his home. He was born June 8, 1926, the son of Russell Lee and Elizabeth (Dunlap) Selfridge.
Mr. Selfridge retired from Bendix Westinghouse Tool & Die after 20 years of service.
He was a life time member of the National Rifle Association. He also belonged to Lorain County Metro Park, where he made maple syrup and gave tours.
Mr. Selfridge was an avid fisherman and hunter who loved to hunt rattlesnakes in his younger years. He also loved to travel.
He was a World War II veteran who proudly served in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of the Church of the Open Door in Elyria, Ohio and the Tri County Church, Dubois.
Mr. Selfridge is the last member of his generation. He is survived by his two daughters, Marcene B. Selfridge of Olanta and Janice L. Mack and her husband, Ron of Byron Center, Mich.
He is also survived by five grandchildren, Jason, Phillip and Heather Mack and Benjamin and Jonathan Selfridge, 13 great-grandchildren and a daughter-in-law, Deborah Selfridge of Olanta.
He is preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Esther (Kuntz) Selfridge, who died Nov. 15, 197; a son, Matthew Selfridge; a granddaughter, Jeneane Mack; and a brother, Robert L. Selfridge.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc. Burial will be at Bloomington Cemetery.
Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by the Dubois Honor Guard.
Friends will be received from 1 p.m. Thursday until the hour of services at the funeral home.
