Hillary Clinton is touting the support of the one-time liberal darling of the 2004 presidential race: Howard Dean.
The former Vermont governor and Democratic National Committee chairman first embraced Clinton in 2014, well before she announced her decision to seek the White House.
But he again offered Clinton his endorsement in a Washington Post piece on Tuesday that Clinton’s campaign highlighted online.
“.@GovHowardDean for Hillary: “I want her compassion and leadership in the Oval Office,” Clinton’s team tweeted.
The move comes as rival Bernie Sanders — who hails from Dean’s home state of Vermont — rises in the polls and some other Democrats are encouraging Joe Biden to jump in the 2016 race. Clinton, who polls say Americans see as untrustworthy, has been dogged by questions over her use of private email while at the State Department.
Dean said Clinton is “the best hope for Americans who are counting on strong and experienced leadership to deal with the economic injustice, educational crises, and foreign instability, which have plagued our country in the early part of the 21st century.”
He was in New Hampshire over the weekend stumping for Clinton.
Dean was also prevalent in the latest round of Clinton’s emails released by the State Department, seeking her help on a variety of issues and thanking her for the assistance.
