Texas sheriff’s deputy shot to death while pumping gas in patrol car

A man walked up behind a sheriff’s deputy who was pumping gas in Texas and shot him multiple times, killing him, authorities said.

The Harris County Sheriff’s deputy was fueling his patrol car in uniform when the gunman fired multiple rounds Friday night.

“He did not say anything to the deputy,” said Deputy Thomas Gilliland of Harris County. “If anyone saw anything … any leads we can get.”

The gunman, who was not identified, remains at large.

Authorities did not identify the sheriff’s deputy, but said he’s a 10-year veteran.
