CLEARFIELD – District Attorney William A. Shaw Jr. has announced Clearfield County’s Fugitive of the Week for the week of Aug. 24.

Shaw identified the fugitive as Jason Guthrie, 34, of Williams Street, Clearfield. Guthrie is wanted for failure to appear at a preliminary hearing held on June 17.

On May 14, Trooper Joshua Lawrence of the Pennsylvania State Police, Clearfield barracks, filed a criminal complaint against Guthrie. He charged Guthrie with multiple counts of forgery, F3; theft by unlawful taking, F3; and bad checks, S.

According to the affidavit of probable cause, on Oct. 24, 2014, state police at Clearfield received a report from the victim that Guthrie had allegedly stolen several checks and cashed them.

According to the victim, a local bank made contact with them after realizing that the signatures on the cashed checks did not match that of the victim. Upon making contact with the bank, Lawrence was able to identify the suspect, Guthrie, from surveillance pictures.

In all, Guthrie allegedly forged checks from the victim’s account, totaling $980.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for June 17, at which time Guthrie failed to appear, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
