VCCCLEARFIELD – Staff members at Visit Clearfield County (VCC) have released the weekly events for Aug.21-27.

Allo, ‘Allo Comes to America!

Reitz Theater

Brit-Com Fans, rejoice! ‘Allo, ‘Allo comes to America! The Reitz is one of a handful of American theaters to present this stage production of the popular BBC television show for the Summer production. Set in France during World War 2, it follows the adventures of cafe owner Rene, as he balances serving German soldiers with assisting the French Resistance repatriate two British Airmen hidden in his cellar. All this is while maintaining affairs with both his serving girls under the eye of his tone-deaf singing wife Edith. It’s a mix of Monty Python and Hogan’s Heroes, making it one of the most popular Brit-Coms of all time.

The performance will be presented at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 20-22.  Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for students/seniors. There will not be any ticket reservations taken, except for season ticket holders.  For more information, please call 814-375-4274 or e-mail reitztheater@verizon.net.

North Central Golf Classic

Beechwoods Golf Course

On Friday, Aug. 21, the 30th annual North Central Golf Classic will be held at the Beechwoods Golf Course. This year’s event will be a scramble format and will include 18 holes, a cart, golf fees, prizes, beverages and lunch and dinner. Demonstration Day

Scuba

Clearfield YMCA

A scuba class will be held Friday, Aug. 21 at the Clearfield YMCA. It will be held from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m.; pre-registration is required for the class. All equipment will be provided to class participants. The class costs $25 for YMCA members and $50 for non-members.

Nature Nut – Nature Home Movies

Fridays are nutty this year. Watch John Acorn, the Nature Nut, in a series of video programs that are as entertaining as they are educational. This week’s episode is nature home movies. The Nature Nut will show you how to make your own home movies of wildlife. Even though some of the equipment has changed (you can probably just use your cell phone today), the things he demonstrates will help you understand what makes a great wildlife video (perhaps for YouTube).

Penn State DuBois Golf Outing

DuBois Country Club

The seventh annual Penn State DuBois Athletics Golf Benefit is planned for Aug. 22, at DuBois Country Club.  Sponsored by the DuBois Educational Foundation, all proceeds will directly benefit campus intercollegiate athletic programs. The event will be a four-person scramble with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start.  Registration opens at 7:30 a.m. Entry fees are $75 per person, and $300 per team.  Entry includes green fee, cart, breakfast, lunch, on-course beverages, skill prizes, and team awards. Dam Scramble

Curwensville Lake

The Dam Scramble is an endurance trail challenge at the Curwensville Lake Recreation Area. There are three, different courses – 16-mile, 11-mile or 5K on single-track trails through the woods with views of the lake. There is a mandatory pre-race meeting at 8:20 a.m. Aug. 22 at Pavilion 2. Participants who run in the 16-mile and 11-mile courses will start at 8:30 a.m. and the 5k runners will start shortly after. Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) Camp S-73 was located in the north end of this park, and the men who lived there built this park. Take a look at where they spent their time when not working on the park.

The Central Mountains Region Antique Automobile Club of America will host its 39th Annual Antique and Custom Auto show Sunday, Aug. 23 at the Clearfield County Fairgrounds. The event will be held rain or shine. Admission and parking is free, and there will be food vendors on-hand.

Each week throughout the summer, a different topic on ‘primitive skills’ has been covered. This week – we put it all together. We’ll take seven of the skills taught earlier and let all participants compete…for fun of course. You can get scored on archery, atlatl throwing, using a bolas, starting a matchless fire, throwing a spear, using a sling and sling-staff.
