Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump is aiming his Twitter firepower squarely at ABC News, attacking them early Friday morning for what he called a “fraudulent” report.
Just after midnight, Trump unleashed a series of tweets to ABC’s “World News Tonight” and reporter Tom Llamas calling on them to correct a report that aired Thursday evening.
He said Llamas “cannot report the news truthfully” and asked him to “apologize for your fraudulent story on World News Tonight. Gang members & criminals.”
Trump was apparently referencing a package from Llamas that aired Thursday night, in which Llamas reported on the war of words on immigration between Trump and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, running in second place to Trump in the GOP primary. In it, Llamas aired clips of himself interrogating both Trump and Bush on their use of the term “anchor babies,” which Llamas called offensive.
He also said Trump was “vowing to deport all 11 million undocumented immigrants.”
Trump’s campaign did not respond to a question about what part of the piece Trump took issue with, though in saying “gang members & criminals” Trump seemed to be implying he would only deport criminals among illegal immigrants.
The real estate mogul has called for deporting all undocumented immigrants, but his policy paper released over the weekend spoke instead of deporting “criminal aliens.”
It’s not the first time in the past few days Trump has sparred with Llamas, who questioned Trump during a testy press conference in New Hampshire on his use of “anchor babies.” Conservative media blog NewsBusters also dinged Llamas for questioning Trump about immigration as he walked into jury duty on Monday.
Meanwhile, Trump did an interview with a radio station in Alabama on Thursday that involved a conversation about criminal, undocumented immigrants.
“A lot of the gangs that you see — it doesn’t hopefully pertain to you guys so much — but when you look at Baltimore, when you look at Chicago and Ferguson and a lot of these areas, you know a lot of these gang members are illegal immigrants,” Trump said on FM Talk 106.5. “They’re going to be gone. We’re going to get them out so fast out of this country. So fast.”
