Jeb Bush is getting some fundraising help from 41 and 43.
Former Presidents George W. Bush and George H.W. Bush will headline a fundraiser for the younger Bush’s White House bid on October 25 and 26, a campaign official confirmed Friday.
The fundraiser, first reported by the Wall Street Journal, will take place in Houston. In order to attend, donors must raise at least $50,000, while a picture with the two former presidents will require $100,000 threshold.
The appearances build onto a fundraising email that George W. Bush sent out Thursday on behalf of his brother, urging donors to back his younger brother. “With his strengths and your support, he will succeed,” the email stated.
While Jeb Bush has framed much of his campaign on an effort to paint himself as his “own man,” he’s faced questions over his decision to tap into his family’s vast donor network. The Associated Press reported this week that about half of the $120 million he and his allies have raised have come from donors who also gave to his father and brother during their campaigns for president.
Asked Thursday how Bush can reconcile his efforts to distance himself from his family yet rely on their fundraising power, Bush told reporters in New Hampshire that he’s happy to have their help. “Is that a contradiction? I’ve got my own record, life experience. I’m blessed to have a brother that loves me and wants to help me. Over and out.”
The former presidents also appeared at fundraisers in Texas earlier this year before the former Florida governor became a candidate.
