Obituary Notice: Shirley L. Bowers

Shirley L. Bowers, 80, of Curwensville died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015 at the Penn Highland DuBois Hospital.

She was born June 26, 1935 in Philipsburg, the daughter of Edgar and Beulah (Lingle) Kolbe.

Mrs. Bowers was a Methodist by faith and attended Shawville United Methodist Church.

For 10 years, she was the owner and operator of Shirley Bowers Beauty Salon. She also had worked at the former Cigar Plant and as an inserter at The Progress.

She retired after 20 years from Bayer Clothing Plant as a production worker.

Mrs. Bowers was involved with the Relay for Life in Clearfield and the Arthritis Foundation. She had many hobbies, including crocheting, sewing, cooking and baking.

She is survived by five children, Jackie Butler and her husband, Allen and Kelly Livergood and her husband, Steve, both of Clearfield; Harold L. Bowers Jr. and his wife, Jan of Portsmouth, Va.; Martin Bowers of Perkasie; and Steve Bowers and his wife, Kelly of Hatfield.

She is also survived by six grandchildren, Jill Butler and her significant other, Gary, Philip Butler and his significant other, Kris, Justin Livergood, Craig Livergood and his wife, Cathy, Dalton Bowers and Russell Bowers; seven great-grandchildren, Tate, Maddie, Hazen, Kenzington, Camden, Caydee and Carter; a sister, Pat Watrous; a brother, Ted Kolbe; and many nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Bowers was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Harold “Sonny” Bowers, to whom she was married Sept. 22, 1956 at the West Side United Methodist Church and whom died Sept. 22, 2001; a sister, Barb Leonard; a brother, Bob Kolbe and a grandson, Dylan Bowers.

Funeral services will be held at 6 p.m. Saturday at the Bennett & Houser Funeral Home Inc., Clearfield, with the Rev. Kenneth Leonard officiating.

Honoring Ms. Bowers’ wishes, there will be no public viewing. Friends will be received at the funeral home for a time of gathering with the family from 2 p.m. Saturday until the hour of the service.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, in memory of Dylan Bowers, 26 S. Second St., Suite 102, Clearfield, PA 16830.
