James J. ‘Duke’ Lemmo, 93, of Clearfield died Wednesday, Aug. 19, 2015 at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
He was born March 14, 1922, a son of the late Anthony and Vincenza (Mendola) Lemmo.
Mr. Lemmo was employed at the former Harbison Walker Refractories for 35 years and then for the Clearfield School District for 10 years. He was also a barber for more than 30 years.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II, he served as a radio operator on the USS Arkansas.
He was a member of the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, as well as the Clearfield American Legion and the Sons of Italy Lodge 189.
He is survived by his wife, Carmella D. ‘Nellie’ (Galio) Lemmo, and three sons, James A. Lemmo and his companion, Michelle Lezzer of West Decatur, Randall L. Lemmo and his wife, Susan of Clearfield and Dennis J. Lemmo and his wife, Mary of Zelienople.
He is survived by six grandchildren, Andy Lemmo and his wife, Jessica, Kimberly Cowder and her husband, Jay, Michael and Jane Lemmo and Maria and Natalie Lemmo; three great-grandchildren, Jacob and Caleb Lemmo and Jayden Cowder; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Margaret Walther, Josephine Cassidy and Mary Crowe and three brothers, Charles, Anthony Jr. and Joseph Lemmo.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be said at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at the St. Francis Catholic Church, Clearfield, with Father John L. Miller as celebrant. Burial will follow in the Calvary Cemetery, Clearfield.
Military honors will be accorded at cemetery by the members of the Clearfield VFW and American Legion Post Honor Guard.
Friends will be received from 5 p.m. – 8 p.m. Friday and from 12:30 p.m. – 1 p.m. Saturday at the Kevin A. Beardsley Funeral Home.
The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the St. Francis Educational Endowment Fund, Clearfield.
