Detour will be lifted once bridge opens to traffic
CLEARFIELD – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation expects to open the new Janesville Bridge on Wednesday.
Crews have been working since Aug. 3 to replace the old concrete slab bridge with a new precast box culvert. PennDOT expects the bridge to be open to traffic by the end of the day Wednesday.
The bridge spans the east branch of Little Muddy Run on Route 253 in the village of Janesville, The old bridge was weight-limit posted at 30-ton for single vehicles and 39-ton for combination vehicles.
Replacing the bridge allows PennDOT to left the weight postings and will also remove it from Clearfield County’s structurally deficient list.
Once the bridge opens to traffic, PennDOT will lift its official nine-mile detour that made use of Route 253/453 and Route 153. The bridge carries an average of more than 650 vehicles daily.
Kukurin Contracting Inc. of Export has been the contractor for this $531,000 project. Work included removal of the existing bridge, placement of the new box culvert, roadway reconstruction, minor drainage work and guide rail updates.
