CLEARFIELD – An auction of the contents of the Clearfield Area Middle School on Aug. 15 made more than expected, according to Superintendent Terry Struble at Monday night’s school board meeting.

Struble said although he didn’t have the final total in front of him, he estimated that the district would gross $100,000 from the school contents auction.

“It was very successful,” said Struble, noting the auction attracted a large number of registered bidders from several states. He said the auction ended around 7 p.m. with the second-floor contents yet to be done.

According to him, the district will auction off the contents of Centre Elementary School, beginning at 8 a.m. this Saturday. The school building and land will then be auctioned off at 11 a.m.

Struble said there was a reserve amount established for Centre Elementary. However, he declined to release the reserve amount when asked by the press after the meeting.

Once the auction finishes Saturday at Centre Elementary, he said the auctioneer will resume with the second-floor contents at the middle school around 12 p.m.  He said, “It shouldn’t last too long, unless there is a lot of bidding.”

Struble said the second-floor contents at the middle school consisted of filing cabinets, other metal cabinets and teacher desks.

Travis Parkes Auction & Appraisals served as the professional auctioneer for the middle school auction. Struble said he will be paid a percentage of the district’s gross amount from the auction; he couldn’t provide an amount to the press on Monday night.

Struble said Parkes hasn’t closed out the middle school auction and still needed to finalize the district’s total. He said Parkes might have a check for the district Saturday when he comes to serve as auctioneer for Centre Elementary.
