Sen. Rand Paul on Tuesday hit back against Donald Trump for calling him a “spoiled brat” — and took aim at Trump’s kids for living a life of wealth.
“If we’re talking about who’s a spoiled brat or not, my two kids all work minimum-wage jobs. Do you think the Trump kids have been working at the local Pizza Hut? So I live a pretty ordinary life, and I’m not begrudging him his wealth but there’s nothing about me or my family that’s spoiled,” Paul told reporters.
At a campaign stop at Riley’s Gun Shop in Hooksett, New Hampshire, Paul was asked about the brat comment from Trump, which was tweeted out Monday after Paul had published an opinion piece slamming the developer as a “fake conservative.”
Trump tweeted, “Truly weird Senator Rand Paul of Kentucky reminds me of a spoiled brat without a properly functioning brain. He was terrible at DEBATE!”
Paul said he’s proud of his children for working low-paying jobs.
“I’ve worked from a young age, my kids all work, and we’re proud of them for working minimum wage jobs, delivering pizzas, working in a pizza place, working in a call center, all my boys work and they’ve worked and we’re proud of them for working,” Paul said.
When asked about Trump’s insult and why he’s doing so well in the polls, Paul laughed before saying he doesn’t know.
The senator from Kentucky has positioned himself as a truth-teller to Trump’s celebrity, questioning whether Trump is just an opportunist who is not qualified to be commander-in-chief.
“He calls people fat and stupid and that’s kind of funny but do we really want a reality TV star to be in charge of our country and our economy?” Paul asked.
