DuBois City to Purchase New Engine/Rescue Truck

DUBOIS – The DuBois City Council approved the purchase of a new engine/rescue truck combination during Monday night’s regular meeting.

The 2016 Sutphen was presented to the council at a cost of $600,000.  Members of the DuBois Volunteer Fire Department were in attendance for the council’s vote.

According to council, the new truck will be indirectly replacing a 1983 truck in Third Ward.  The Third Ward Fire Department will receive the truck being directly replaced, a 1999 Sutphen.

Councilman Randy Schmidt said that the 1999 fire truck cost $200,000. The new truck, he said, has a pumping capacity at 2,000 gallons per minute.  This, Schmidt said, is 500 gallons more than the 1999 vehicle.

“The way we keep up with everything is purchasing new equipment,” said Fire Chief William Boyle. In July he said there were 19 total fire calls; of those two were mutual aids and one was a structure fire.

In other business, council also voted to support Pennsylvania State Senate Bill No. 535.  The bill would allow municipal police to use radar to enforce speed limits.

“Pennsylvania is the only state that doesn’t allow municipal officers to use radar,” said Councilwoman Diane Bernardo.
