Hillary Clinton mocked Donald Trump on Monday, but said comments about women’s rights from Republican contenders like Marco Rubio are more troubling.
The Democratic presidential front-runner hit Trump after a town hall event in New Hampshire, saying his attacks on Fox News host Megyn Kelly — starting in Thursday night’s GOP debate and continuing through the weekend on Twitter and in television appearances — went too far.
“Yes, I know it makes great TV. I think the guy went way overboard — offensive, outrageous, pick your adjective,” Clinton said.
But she said comments from candidates like Rubio, the Florida senator who said he opposes abortion in all cases — including cases of rape and incest — and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush who questioned the need for women’s health funding (later saying he “misspoke) while attacking Planned Parenthood last week, are clear indications of where the GOP stands today.
“What Marco Rubio said has as much of an impact on where the Republican Party is today as anybody on that stage, and it is deeply troubling,” Clinton said.
Clinton largely mocked Trump, saying she’s sure Kelly can defend herself.
“It’s entertainment. It’s all entertainment. I think he’s having the time of his life,” she said of Trump’s presidential campaign.
She even poked at the real estate mogul’s ability to articulate a position on college affordability — which Clinton had addressed with a policy rollout earlier Monday.
“Oh, really? What did Donald Trump have to say about college affordability?” she said to a reporter’s question. “I always wondered.”
