Police officer killed during traffic stop in Memphis; shooter on the run

A manhunt is underway for a suspect who fatally shot a police officer during a traffic stop in Tennessee, authorities said Sunday.

Officer Sean Bolton, 33, suffered multiple gunshot wounds during the incident in Memphis on Saturday night, police said.

The suspect, who was in the car stopped by Bolton, remains at large, said spokeswoman Karen Rudolph of the Memphis Police Department.

A citizen used the officer’s radio at 9:18 p.m. to notify “communications” about the shooting, Rudolph said.

“Once officers arrived on the scene, they located a Memphis Police Department officer who had been shot during what appeared to be a traffic stop,” she said.

Bolton was taken to hospital in critical condition, where he later died.
