Pauline (McCandless) Baker-Greenawalt died Wednesday, July 29, 2015 peacefully surrounded by family.
Although she will be deeply missed, comfort is taken in the knowing of God’s promise that she will live her eternal life as full as the one she lived with us.
She was born a New Year’s baby to the late Milo and Ethel McCandless in Westover.
She attended Westover/Hastings Schools and graduated in 1937.
She married her first husband the late Jake Baker. Together they had their daughter, Bonnie, and moved to Houtzdale.
She was blessed a second time when she married the late John Greenawalt. He brought two additional children into her home, John and Paul.
She retired from General Cigar before continuing her second career in the deli at Bi-Lo.
Besides spending time with family and friends, nothing could make her happier than spending the day cutting the grass and tending to her yard.
She was also preceded in death by step-children, Mary Ellen Greenawalt, Rosalie Lewis and Paul Greenawalt and her siblings, Harry McCandless, Hester Beheringer and David McCandless.
She is survived by her loving daughter and caregiver, Bonnie Jedamzik; a son, John Greenawalt; a step-son, Tom Greenawalt; and a step-son-in-law, John Lewis.
She is survived by her siblings, Ruth Greenland, Leona (Albert) Daisley, Violet Beck and baby sister, Miriam (Bob) Hamric; her brothers-in-law, Allen Baker, Gerald (Audrey) Greenawalt; and her lifetime friend and special sister-in-law, Ellen Greenawalt.
She is survived by her grandchildren, Bridgett (Sandy) Bialota, Brice (Dayna) Ferguson, Mary Lynn Martin, Joe Martin, Paula Martin, Peter Martin, Mike Martin, Anna Martin, Dolly Martin, Steven Martin, John Lewis, Jim Lewis, Lorraine Grattan, Angela Davis, Mary Mickens, Lizzy Shoemaker, Eric Greenawalt, Valerie Greenawalt, and Kim Kingston and her great-grandchildren, Amanda Ferguson, Todd Rees, Brittany Bialota and Alyssa Ferguson.
She is also survived by her 32 step-great-grandchildren; her great-great-grandchildren, Jordyn Kline and Ryan Kline; her three step-great-great-grandchildren; numerous nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
Calling hours will be from 2 p.m. – 8 p.m. Monday at the Birger A. Freeberg Funeral Home Inc., Houtzdale.
Funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at First Presbyterian Church in Houtzdale. Burial will follow in the East Ridge Cemetery, Westover.
