Detour will be in place Aug. 4-20
CLEARFIELD – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is advising area drivers that a bridge replacement job is scheduled Aug. 3-20 in Clearfield County.
Located on Route 253 in the village of Janesville, the bridge is currently weight-limit posted at 30 ton for single vehicles and 39 ton for combination vehicles.
Replacing the bridge will remove the weight postings and also remove it from Clearfield County’s structurally deficient list.
The work is expected to last through Aug. 20 and an official detour will be in place starting Aug. 4. The nine-mile detour will direct drivers to use Route 253/453 and Route 153.
Starting Aug. 3, crews will begin work to replace the current concrete slab bridge with a new precast box culvert.
The Gulich Township bridge spans the east branch of Little Muddy Run in Janesville. Originally built in 1928, the current 18-foot bridge carries an average of more than 650 vehicles daily.
Kukurin Contracting Inc. of Export is the contractor for this $531,000 project. Work includes removal of the existing bridge, placement of the new box culvert, roadway reconstruction, minor drainage work and guiderail updates.
Should work progress allow, PennDOT will re-open the roadway and bridge prior to the Aug. 20 completion date. PennDOT reminds drivers to follow detour signs, obey posted speed limits, and always buckle up.
