Clarence Robert Fledderman, 100, of Hyde died Sunday, July 26, 2015 at the Clearfield Penn Highlands Hospital. Born March 9, 1915 in St. Marys, he was the son of Fred and Mary (Gradl) Fledderman.
Mr. Fledderman retired from Pure Carbon Co. in St. Marys as a foreman in the Samples Department. He assisted in the design and creation of the steering mechanism for the lunar rover for the NASA Space Program.
He was a captain in the U.S. Army. He served in the European Theater during World War II.
Mr. Fledderman was a member of St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville.
He was also a member of the John Lewis Shade Post 6 of the Clearfield American Legion and the St. Marys Council Knights of Columbus. He loved the outdoors and camping; he was an avid railroad enthusiast.
He was first wed to the former S. Bernice (Johnson). She preceded him in death on Sept. 30, 1982. He then wed the former Pauline (Malone). She preceded him in death on Nov. 21, 1996.
He was also preceded in death by his parents; granddaughter, Amy Fledderman; siblings Mary Wittman, Patsy Smith, Carl Fledderman, Fred “Fritz” Fledderman, Herbert Fledderman and Frances Fledderman; a step-son, Paul Malone; and two step-grandchildren.
On June 12, 1998, he wed the former Mine’ (Farnsworth) Edwards, who survives along with his four sons, William Fledderman of Kissimmee, Fla., Robert Fledderman and his wife, Anne of Midlothian, Va., Lawrence Fledderman and his wife, Pennie of Titusville and Daniel Fledderman and his wife, Colleen of Newtown Square.
Surviving are four step-children from his second marriage, Mark, Shawn, Laura and Linda and four step-children from his current marriage, Robert Edwards and his wife, Linda, Thomas Edwards and his wife, Sue Ellen, Jane Edwards and David Edwards.
In addition, he is survived by nine grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, numerous step-grandchildren and several step-great-grandchildren.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Friday at the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville, with the Rev. Father Mark J., Mastrian as celebrant.
Burial will be in the St. Marys Catholic Cemetery in St Marys. Military honors will be accorded at the cemetery by members of the St. Marys Honor Guard.
Friends will be received from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Friday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc. of Curwensville from which the procession will depart for the church.
