According to Kermit Baker, chief economist for the American Institute of Architects (AIA) in Washington, D.C., the two “hot” geographic areas of construction in the U.S. over the past year have been the South and the Midwest. Baker based his findings on the Architectural Billings Index, which is a leading indicator of construction.
