Woman Transported to Hospital after Karthaus House Fire

KARTHAUS – A Karthaus woman was transported to the hospital after her house caught fire at 8:32 a.m. Tuesday at 2287 Quehanna Hwy., according to the Pennsylvania State Police.

The Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal and the Karthaus Fire Department investigated the origin and cause of the fire. The fire damaged a single-story, wooden-framed house that belonged to Julia A. Ishler of Karthaus.

According to state police, the fire originated inside the control panel of the electric range located in the kitchen of the victim’s house. The electric range was in use at the time of the fire.

Upon arrival to the scene, fire personnel located the victim, Ishler, who was unresponsive outside of the house. She was transported to the Mount Nittany Medical Center for treatment of injuries.

Fire personnel contained the fire to the kitchen area of the house. However, the entire house sustained heat and smoke damage; damage is estimated at $100,000, according to state police.
