Goodwill Charity Golf Classic to Support Greenhouse Program

FALLS CREEK- Goodwill Industries of North Central PA will host its annual Goodwill Charity Golf Classic on Aug. 17 at the Beechwood Golf Course.

This year’s tournament will support the Goodwill Greenhouse, a small business program that teaches individuals with disabilities how to manage a small agricultural business from seed to sale.

“The idea is to be able to train clients to run their own business. We will start with the set up and explain what it costs to set it up,” said Tom Glasl, chief financial officer of Goodwill of North Central PA.

“Then, they will run it from start to finish. When they sell something they will take the deposit to the bank and make the entry on QuickBooks. When they buy things, we’ll teach them how to do the checks.”

Goodwill hopes to expand the Greenhouse Training Program to include more individuals and to build a large permanent Greenhouse. A goal of $10,000 has been set for this year’s golf classic.

Registration begins at 11:30 a.m. and the Shot Gun Start is at 12:30 p.m. The entrance fees are $100 for an individual and $400 for a team of four people. Tee Sponsorship is $200.

There will be door prizes, and a steak dinner will follow the tournament.

If you would like to sign up or have any questions, call Your Goodwill Headquarters at 814-371-2821. The deadline to sign up is Aug. 1.
