Comedian Amy Schumer’s Star Wars-themed photo spread for GQ is causing a disturbance in the force.
Photographer Mark Seliger’s images for the August issue feature the “Trainwreck” actress posing as Princess Leia in various cheeky poses with Star Wars characters. The cover features her in Leia’s slave bikini, sucking on C-3PO’s finger, while another image inside the magazine shows her topless in bed, smoking a cigarette between C-3PO and his droid friend R2-D2.
Some Star Wars fans took to social media to call out Lucasfilm and parent company Disney for what they considered a “tasteless” and “lame” photo shoot. In response, Lucasfilm has been issuing the following statement via its Star Wars Twitter account over and over again.
“Lucasfilm & Disney didn’t approve, participate in or condone the inappropriate use of our characters in this manner.”
GQ did not respond to request for comment on the claims.
At least one original cast member is openly supportive of the shoot.
“Got excited when I saw Amy Schumer and GQ Magazine pics and thought she was just cast in [episode] 8!” Mark Hamill, who plays Luke Skywalker, said on Twitter. “We should be so lucky.”
