How Jeb Bush knows his dad is OK

President George H.W. Bush, who broke a bone in his neck after falling earlier this week, is improving, says his son and would-be fellow president, Jeb Bush.

How can the younger Bush tell? Because his dad is telling dirty jokes to the nurses in the hospital.

“Dad gets in hospital fairly often,” the former Florida Governor said at a town hall event in Carson City, Nevada, on Friday. “But when he starts telling semi-dirty jokes to the nurses, we know he’s on the rebound.”

The elder Bush, 91, was hospitalized after falling Wednesday at his summer home in Kennebunkport, Maine. The former President broke the C2 vertebrae in his neck.

“It is a significant injury, but right now the President is in excellent shape, and we would anticipate that he would make a full recovery,” Dr. William D’Angelo, his attending physician at Maine Medical Center in Portland, said Thursday. “He is doing great. His spirits are good.”

The 41st President suffers from a form of Parkinson’s disease, leaving him unable to walk.

“He’s 91 years old. He’s going to heal more slowly than other people, people who have fractures in the neck, people who have fractures in the hip, things like that,” CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta said Thursday.
