Samuel G. Pearce, 89, of Morrisdale died Wednesday, July 8, 2015 at his residence. Born July 23, 1925 in Kylertown, he was the son of the late Harry and Ivy Harshbarger Pearce.
Mr. Pearce was a member of the Messiah Baptist Church, Kylertown. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during World War II.
He received the Good Conduct Medal, the Bronze Star, the European, African, Middle Eastern Theatre Ribbon, American Theatre Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.
Mr. Pearce had worked for the River Hill Coal Co. and Baily Coal Co. as a mechanic.
He was married to Arlene Sones Pearce on July 21, 1951 at the Messiah Baptist Church, Kylertown. She preceded him in death on Aug. 14, 1996.
He is survived by a daughter, Barbara Pearce Cowder of Kylertown and one son, Dennis Pearce and his wife, Cindy (Raymond) of Kylertown.
Mr. Pearce is survived by four grandchildren, Jennifer Pearce Bloom and her husband, Jason of Bellefonte, Tracey Pearce Bone and her husband, Ryan and Chase Cowder, both of Kylertown and Chad Cowder of State College and two great-grandchildren, Brianna Bone and Isaak Bloom.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Margaret Richards and Pearl Kauffman and three brothers, Calvin, Albert and Robert Pearce. He was the last of his generation.
A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at the Messiah Baptist Church, Kylertown, with Pastor Earl R. Shawley officiating. Burial will be in the Messiah Baptist Cemetery, Kylertown.
Friends will be received from 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Saturday at the church. Military honors will be accorded at the church by the Moshannon Valley Independent Honor Guard.
