Betty J. Heichel, 87, finally reached her earthly goal on Thursday, July 2, 2015 and entered heaven to be with her Lord and Savior.
She died peacefully at the Mountain Laurel Nursing & Rehabilitation Center, Clearfield.
Born April 28, 1928, she was a life-long resident of Pottersdale. She was the daughter of Blanchard and Lena (Pitts) Narehood.
She wed John (Buck) Heichel on April 3, 1948. He preceded her in death on May 27, 1962.
She is survived by five children, Dale (Suzette) Heichel of Woodland, Bonnie (Blaine) Hugney and Connie (Joseph) McGovern, both of Frenchville, Rebecca (Gregory) Hertlein of Clearfield and Philip (Louette) Heichel of West Decatur.
She is survived by nine grandchildren, Brenda Kovalick, Blaine Hugney Jr., Jennifer Hugney, Autumn McGonigal, Joshua Hertlein, Zachary Hertlein, Caleb Heichel, Jill Heichel and Micah Heichel and 10 great-grandchildren.
She is also survived by one sister, Helen Paul and three brothers, William (Mary) Narehood, Carl (Carol) Narehood and Robert (Sharon) Narehood.
Mrs. Heichel was a member of the Community Alliance Church. She was the pianist for more than 60 years at the church; she also enjoyed playing the piano at Mountain Laurel.
After more than 40 years of service, she retired as postmaster of the Pottersdale Post Office.
She was a strong woman who enjoyed the simplicities of life and dedicated her time to teaching her family Christian values. She will be forever remembered with much love and admiration.
Mrs. Heichel’s family wishes the sincerest gratitude to all of the dedicated personnel of Mountain Laurel who cared for her.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Community Alliance Church, Karthaus, with the Rev. Dan Beeman officiating and being assisted by her grandson, Pastor Zachary Hertlein.
Burial will be at the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Friends will be received at the church from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. and from 6 p.m. – 8 p.m. Saturday and from 2 p.m. – 3 p.m. Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Community Alliance Church, the Mountain Laurel Activities Department and or the Oak Hill or Ganoe Cemeteries.
