Obama, Bush unite on guacamole

Despite their differences, there is one issue that Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush and President Barack Obama do agree on: No peas in their guacamole, please.

The great guac debate began after The New York Times published a recipe Wednesday that includes peas, which are not traditionally an ingredient in guacamole.

Obama brought prominent attention to the issue during his Twitter Q&A on Wednesday, when a follower asked him to weigh on the issue.

The President said that he respects The New York Times, but likes his guacamole the traditional way.

Obama is “not buying peas in guac. onions, garlic, hot peppers. classic,” he tweeted.

He’s not the only politician to have an opinion. Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush also weighed in on how he prefers his guac.

“You don’t put peas in guacamole,” Bush tweeted.

Even former Rep. John Dingell, who was the longest-serving member in Congress until he decided not to seek reelection in 2014 and is known for his popular Twitter account, had an opinion on the issue.

“Why would anyone add guacamole to perfectly good peas?” he asked via Twitter.

The issue offended the Texas Republican Party Twitter account with their recipe, and responded saying, “The nytimes declared war on Texas when they suggested adding green peas to guacamole.”

This isn’t the first time Obama has spoke on his love for the classic guacamole recipe. In 2014, he spoke at a kids event to promote healthy eating with first lady Michelle Obama and revealed his obsession with the dip.

“Basically if there’s a bowl of good chips and guacamole,” he said at the event. “I lose my mind.”
