Jimmy Fallon injury cancels ‘Tonight Show’ taping

Jimmy Fallon injured his hand badly enough to require surgery and force the cancellation of Friday’s taping of “The Tonight Show.”

The type of the injury is unknown, but a source at NBC said that it required minor surgery. It is unclear how long Fallon, 40, will be sidelined.

A spokesperson at NBC said that the talk show was already slated for a two-week hiatus around the Fourth of July holiday. It will be off the air June 29-July 3, and July 5-10.

The cancellation was announced early Friday afternoon on the official Twitter account for “The Tonight Show.”

“Hey guys – unfortunately tonight’s taping has been canceled due to Jimmy injuring his hand,” the tweet said. “He’s totally fine but we’ll be airing a repeat.”

In a subsequent tweet, the show announced that ticketholders for Friday’s taping will be contacted to reschedule.
