PennDot: Route 219 Long-term Detours in Effect

Ridgway – The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation is advising drivers that the Pennsy Bridge on Route 219 in Ridgway, Elk County will remain closed until further notice.

The bridge was closed Thursday, June 18 due to a construction-related incident.

The following detours are in effect until further notice:

Northbound traffic will continue to follow the detour that was being used for the Pennsy Bridge project. That detour is: Route 219 truck bypass at the top of Boot Jack Mountain, to Route 120 west to Route 1014 (Osterhout Street), then returning to Route 219 north. Only northbound traffic will be able to access and use Route 1014 (Osterhout Street).

Southbound traffic will be require to follow a detour beginning in Johnsonburg. Southbound drivers will exit Route 219 in Johnsonburg and follow Route 255 south to the city of St Marys. In St Marys, drivers will follow Route 120 west to Ridgway and will intersect with Route 219 south in Ridgway. Drivers need to be alert for a reduced speed limit on Route 120 between St Marys and Ridgway. Some section of Route 120 are posted at a speed limit of 35 mph due to rough road conditions and construction activity.

Route 219 northbound (North Broad Street) between Main Street and Erie Street in Ridgway will be open to local traffic only. No through traffic will be permitted on this section of Route 219
