New Hampshire voters say when they meet a presidential candidate, eye contact and the handshake matter.
“I really want to know that you’re listening to me, it’s not just a gesture that you’re really listening to my concerns and my issues,” New Hampshire voter Tashawn Baker said.
Baker was among a group of fellow New Hampshire voters who sat down with CNN’s “New Day” anchor Chris Cuomo to chat about their priorities in the 2016 election.
“If we want new perspectives we can’t keep re-electing old, white men again and again and again, and I’m okay to do it if it’s the right old, white man, but I also think with diversity of people comes diversity of opinions,” Nyomi Guzman said.
The voters voiced the issues they plan to vote on, which included social security, a plan for terrorism, equal pay, the economy, taxes and making college more affordable through national service.
“I think that a lot of the social issues that are coming into play as a mother, I’m really terrified, I’m very terrified and I want to see those matters addressed,” Baker said.
Republican voter, Elle Caruso explained that her family is starting a bakery, “That really influences the way I want to vote is how the candidates plan to lower taxes, keep them the same, all that.”
The group of voters also chatted specifically about the various candidates, calling brain surgeon Ben Carson an outsider and making it clear they would not just vote for Hillary Clinton or Carly Fiorina just because they are women.
“You know, it’s a real privilege to be in this state where we get this front row seat to democracy,” Democrat Matt Wihelm said.
