CLEARFIELD – The man accused of burglarizing a local candy store waived his right to a preliminary hearing during Centralized Court on Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Eric D. Junod, 19, an inmate of the jail, has been charged with burglary; criminal trespass; theft by unlawful taking; receiving stolen property; and criminal mischief. His bail has been set at $50,000 monetary.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, Clearfield Borough police were dispatched for a brick being thrown at a window to Neeper’s Sweet Treats at 11:04 p.m. May 28.
Upon arrival to the scene, police determined that someone had allegedly smashed the glass in the entrance door. Police allegedly observed glass and a brick on the floor inside the candy store.
Inside the store, police also located a cellular phone on the counter overtop a candy display.
The owner of Neeper’s Sweet Treats told police that $81.80 worth of candy and $10.74 worth of soda were taken from the store. The building’s owner told police damage to the glass door, which would need replaced, was $225.
On June 1, police executed a search warrant on the cellular phone located at the scene of the alleged burglary. When police called the cellular phone, they were directed to the voicemail of “Eric Junod.”
On June 3, police contacted Junod, who allegedly admitted to the burglary. He told police he drank the soda and ate some of the candy. Junod allegedly admitted that he threw the rest of the stolen candy in the river.
