First look: Will Ferrell and Kristin Wiig’s Lifetime movie, ‘A Deadly Adoption’

Fans will be forgiven if they mistake the promo for an “SNL” skit.

A teaser is out for “A Deadly Adoption,” Lifetime’s upcoming movie starring former “SNL” stars Will Ferrell and Kristin Wiig. The apparent drama has created a ton of buzz, given that the actors are known much more as movie stars who do comedy rather than the melodramatic small-screen productions that Lifetime trades in, to the delight of its audiences.

In April, Variety reported that Ferrell said the project had been canceled after a press leak.

“We are deeply disappointed that our planned top-secret project was made public,” his statement said. “Kristen and I have decided it is in the best interest for everyone to forgo the project entirely, and we thank Lifetime and all the people who were ready to help us make this film.”

But when Lifetime recently put up a billboard advertising the film above Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles, minds were blown.

“Am I awake or dreaming?” asked Frisky writer Amelia McDonell-Parry. “Someone pinch me so I know that this poster for the upcoming Lifetime movie, ‘A Deadly Adoption,’ starring a stoic Will Ferrell and a wide-eyed Kristen Wiig, is actually real.”

In the brief promo, Ferrell is about to be run down by two young women in a car while a bloodied Wiig holds a gun on an unseen person.

In the promo’s description, Lifetime writes that “Inspired by a true story, ‘A Deadly Adoption’ is a high-stakes dramatic thriller about a successful couple (Will Ferrell and Kristen Wiig) who house and care for a pregnant woman (Jessica Lowndes) during the final months of her pregnancy with the hope of adopting her unborn child.”

The made-for-TV movie is scheduled to air June 20 (which is a Saturday, despite what the billboard says).
