Healthy Relationship Couple Retreats

Discover Backpacking
Parker Dam
The first Discover Backpacking program in 2015 at the park will be Friday and Saturday, June 5-6. Participants will meet at the Environmental Education Classroom, next to the Park Office, at 9 a.m. Friday. The excursion will conclude Saturday at approximately 3 p.m. back at the Park Office.
All along the hike, a knowledgeable guide will discuss, demonstrate and assist participants with topics such as camp set-up, meal preparation, and the ‘Leave No Trace’ principles of outdoor recreation. Participants will also have the opportunity to experience parts of the wilderness that is the Pennsylvania Wilds and its wildlife inhabitants in a way many visitors don’t realize even exists.
No children under 18 may participate without a parent or guardian; it is strongly suggested that small children (under 12) not participate. There are health history and liability forms that must be completed before departing on the trip. Those forms, as well as a list of suggested items to bring along on the trip, will be made available once a participant has registered and paid the program fee.

Art Weekend in DuBois
Art Weekend in DuBois starts at 12 p.m. Friday, June 5 with “Poetry in the Park” in downtown DuBois. “Art Walk on the Block” will also be held from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. Saturday, June 6 in downtown DuBois.
Souders Trail Evening Hike, Parker Dam
Parker Dam State Park will host an evening hike along the beautiful Souders Trail beginning at the ball field at 6:30 p.m. Participants will learn about the history of the park, as we look for remnants of the logging era and signs of life now present. Make sure to wear appropriate footwear and bring along binoculars.
Corner Concert
Shaw Park
Several life-long, local musicians make up The Vagabonds, a popular Pennsylvania polka band.
The Vagabonds will perform Friday evening at the Corner Concert in Shaw Park. This summer the concerts will benefit the Special Olympics of Clearfield County.
Corner Concerts are held at 7 p.m. every Friday evening. The Shaw Park is located at the corner of East Market and Front streets in downtown Clearfield.
Nature Nut – Wildflowers
Parker Dam
Fridays are nutty this year at Parker Dam State Park. Watch John Acorn, the Nature Nut, in a series of video programs that are as entertaining as they are educational. This week’s episode, “Wildflowers” begins at 8:30 p.m. at the campground amphitheater. This is the time of year to find a great variety of wildflowers in bloom.

National Trails Day Hikes
Parker Dam
Parker Dam State Park will celebrate National Trails Day with a pair of hikes:
Beaver Dam Trail
3 p.m. – Environmental Education Classroom
Meet your guide for this three-mile hike that will travel along level terrain. We will be taking a closer look at any late spring wildflowers and other interesting sights along the trail.
Stumpfield Ski Trail Loop
7 p.m. – Amphitheater Trail (Site #53)
Would you like to hike a trail that hasn’t been built yet? We’ll hike about two miles through a relatively unexplored section of the park. This trail is planned to be opened to cross-country skiing for the 2015-16 ski season.
Coalport Flea/Farmer’s Market
The flea market will open the first Saturday of May and continue through October. The farmer’s market will open the first Saturday of June and continue through October. Both markets are held from 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. at the Beechwood Park in Coalport; set up will begin at 6:30 a.m.
The flea market space is $15 per month. If you set up all six months, the cost for space is $50; you will get your first month free.
The farmer’s market spaces are limited to food products and plants; you provide your own tables, chairs, etc. The space costs $10 per vendor per day. If you sign up for all five months, it is $40; your first month is free.

History Walk, Parker Dam
Parker Dam State Park will host a History Walk at 2 p.m. at the beach house. If you went back 50 years, what might you see? Would Parker Dam be any different? How about if you went back 100 years? Or, 500? Learn more about how the area of the park has changed over the years. We will be walking around the lake and crossing the spillway rocks, so please wear appropriate shoes for the journey.

You can enjoy the sights and sounds of summer in the picnic pavilion. On Saturday, June 6, you can enjoy music by the 2 of Us at 7 p.m. It is $5 per person to participate and catered food will be available at an additional cost. Sunday Bike Cruise
Parker Dam State Park’s Sunday bike cruise is slated for 10:30 a.m. at the Environmental Education Classroom. Bring your bicycle for a cruise down the CCC Trail, as we discuss the events that led to the park’s current state. On the way back, we’ll ride up Mud Run Road and discuss major events and activities that occur in the park. The CCC Trail is over easy terrain that is best suited for mountain bikes. Be sure to wear appropriate shoes and clothing, and to bring water. Children under 12 years must wear a helmet.
Tea & Talk, Parker Dam
Parker Dam’s Tea and Talk event will be held at 7 p.m. at the beach house. Bring your own cup to sample some sweet fern/mountain mint tea grown here in the park. Talk subjects are always open; come with an idea of what you want to know more about, learn, or share. Teaser: “So what are these ‘Throwback Thursdays’ at the park all about?”

Do you need a refreshed or more positive outlook in your workplace? Appropriate for all levels of the organization, this program will help participants discover ways to become more positive with renewed energy.
Low morale, lack of motivation and workplace negativity often make their way into even the most dynamic organizations. Individuals, departments or employee teams may become plagued with less than desirable workplace attitudes that would be more productive if redirected into a more positive outlook.
This training program will help participants discover ways to think more positive or remain positive in the workplace. It will be held Wednesday, June 10 at Lock Haven’s Clearfield Campus; it will run from 8:30 a.m. – 12 p.m.
