CLEARFIELD – A 22-year-old Clearfield man, Tyler Edward Peters, will stand trial for an alleged assault after all charges were held for court after a preliminary hearing Wednesday at the Clearfield County Jail.
Peters has been charged with aggravated assault, simple assault, disorderly conduct, terroristic threats, harassment and public drunkenness. Peters’ bail was increased from $25,000 to $50,000 monetary at his preliminary hearing.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, on May 23 the Clearfield Borough police were dispatched to an alleged disturbance in the parking lot of Mary’s Place. Upon arrival police were advised Peters had beaten up the alleged victim and then fled to an apartment building on Boyer Avenue.
County Control advised the alleged victim was behind Mary’s Place. Officers who were in the immediate area located him and found he was injured and bleeding from his face area. Police called for a medic unit due to the alleged victim’s injuries.
While conducting interviews related to the incident, an officer observed a man who matched the description of the suspect in the window of an apartment building across the street. As officers prepared to make entry, they allegedly observed the man running from the door.
Officers proceeded to enter the common area and pursued the man, giving him verbal commands to stop. While turning the corner of a common hallway, an officer pulled his taser and commanded for the man to put his hands in the air, which he did.
Officers placed the man against the wall to maintain security and to handcuff him. Officers identified the man as Peters and escorted him to the patrol vehicle. At the patrol vehicle, Peters allegedly started to use profanity while speaking to the officers.
At this time, medical personnel arrived to transport the alleged victim to the emergency room of Clearfield Penn Highlands Hospital due to the severity of his injuries. Peters told an officer that he needed to go to the hospital due to his injuries.
When the officer asked about his injuries, Peters said he had injuries to his face. Although the officer didn’t observe any injuries, he transported Peters to the hospital for a medical evaluation. An officer took a photograph of Peters’ face upon his arrival at the hospital.
At the hospital, a nurse asked Peters about how much he had to drink. Peters allegedly became loud and began to use profanity. When an officer advised Peters that he was in the hospital and to calm down, Peters allegedly used profanity toward the officer.
When another officer attempted to get a preliminary breath test, Peters allegedly used profanity toward him. Each time officers advised Peters to calm down, he allegedly used profanity toward them.
In an interview with police, the alleged victim said he was shooting pool when Peters walked up to him in Mary’s Place. He said Peters told him that he didn’t like him.
After that the alleged victim said Peters went outside and called him out. He said when he went outside Peters attacked him.
Initially he said he and Peters argued back and forth for a bit. However, he said Peters punched him in the face and must have knocked him out, as he didn’t remember anything until someone told him the police were there.
In the affidavit, police said due to the alleged victim’s injuries, it’s apparent that Peters continued to hit him after he was knocked out. Police also observed that the alleged victim had scrapes and bruises on his shoulder due to falling in the gravel parking lot.
Peters was cleared from the hospital. When he was taken to the patrol vehicle, he allegedly refused to get inside. He allegedly continued to use profanity toward police and his mother.
An officer entered the other side of the patrol vehicle and allegedly had to pull Peters into it. As the officer went to close the door, Peters allegedly kicked the door and window.
As a result, police removed Peters and placed leg shackles and a hobble on him. Peters was transported to the CCJ and lodged on a probation detainer.
While transporting Peters to the CCJ, he stated that when he got out he was going to kill the alleged victim. Peters also told an officer that he needed to remember what happened to the alleged victim.
On May 22 Peters allegedly posted on his Facebook, “Get a hold of me, down for whatever comes my way. Look the f— out, I’m on a path of destruction,” the affidavit states.
