All three members of the Clinton family paid homage to Biden on Twitter. Democratic presidential contender Hillary Clinton described him as “a wonderful man.”

Democratic members of Congress also expressed their sadness at the news. “I thought the world of him,” wrote Senate Minority Leader Harry Reid.

Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, the Chair of the Democratic National Committee, said the death had left her “heartbroken.”

Prominent Republicans offered their condolences to the Biden family, with Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal calling the death “a tragic loss.”

Former vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin recalled meeting Beau Biden’s “beautiful family” at a debate in 2008.

Journalists paid their respects, too. CNN’s Chris Cuomo described Biden as “a friend and force of positive change.”

Fox News political analyst Brit Hume shared his sympathy for Biden’s father. “We are not meant to bury our children,” he wrote.

Tributes also flowed in from beyond the United States, including from Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who said he was saddened by Biden’s death.
