Ball Accused of Using Drugs While Driving

DUBOIS – A Brockway woman is facing charges after allegedly using drugs while driving.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed with District Judge Patrick Ford’s office May 19, Hali Madeline Ball, 20, 1630 Main St., Brockway, is charged by the DuBois-based state police with possession of a small amount of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, driving under the influence of alcohol or a controlled substance, speeding, careless driving and restrictions on alcoholic beverages, following an incident April 27.

According to the affidavit, troopers were conducting a speed trap on Larkeytown Road, near Strosky’s Garage in Sandy Township, when they clocked a vehicle doing 42 miles-per-hour in a 25 mile-per-hour zone. The troopers also saw the driver appeared to be using drug paraphernalia.

The troopers pulled the vehicle over and spoke to the driver, later identified as Ball. The troopers saw that Ball’s eyes were glassy and blood-shot and they could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from the vehicle.

The troopers asked Ball where she put the pipe she was smoking, and Ball allegedly said she had thrown it into the back seat. Ball was asked to step out of the vehicle and get the pipe, which she did. The troopers could smell marijuana on Ball’s breath and Ball allegedly handed the troopers a small blue bag containing a clear plastic bag with a small amount of marijuana, a multi-colored glass pipe and a pack of rolling papers.

After failing field sobriety tests, Ball was taken to Penn Highlands DuBois for blood testing. The tests were positive for marijuana.
