Gregory T. “Tom” Hensal, 55, of Madera died Saturday, May 23, 2015, surrounded by his family at Mount Nittany Medical Center.

Born Dec. 14, 1959 in Philipsburg, he was the son of the late William and Kathryn (Pollick) Hensal.

He married his wife, Cheryl (Wrobleski) Hensal, on April 3, 2007 in Winchester, Va.

He was employed by Sky Haven Coal for a number of years as well as Graymont Mine Co.  He completed a four-year apprenticeship program for I.U.O.E. Local No. 66 and graduated with the title of journeyman operator.

He worked for many years for International Union of Operating Engineers Local No. 66, where, most recently he had specialized in natural gas pipeline construction.  He was a member of Osceola Lodge No. 515 Free and Accepted Masons of Pennsylvania and the Loyal Order of the Moose Lodge.

He served his community for many years as an EMT for Madera Ambulance Co and as a volunteer firefighter with the Madera Fire Co.  He was also a supervisor for Bigler Township for several years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his son, Trevor Hensal of Altoona; his step-children, David Root of Clearfield and Bethany Root and Adam Root, both of Madera; a sister, Sharon Reed and her husband, Rich of Ventura, Calif.; and two brothers, John “Jack” Hensal and his wife, Nancy of State College and Francis “Gene” Hensal of Madera.

He is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his paternal and maternal grandparents and several aunts and uncles.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. Saturday until the time of services at 1 p.m. at Kruise-Spewock Funeral & Cremation Services Inc., Madera, with the Rev. Mark Melhorn officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
