CLEARFIELD – A Brockway woman accused of filling prescriptions for her incarcerated father pleaded guilty during sentencing court in Clearfield County.
Amber Nicole Meredith, 28, pleaded guilty to acquire or obtain possession of a controlled substance by misrepresentation and was sentenced to 30 days to one year in jail and two years consecutive probation.
She was fined $300 plus costs. She was ordered not to have any prescriptions for narcotics without the approval of the probation office. This felony charge requires she submit to DNA testing at a cost of $250.
According to the affidavit of probable cause, police were contacted by Shankle’s Pharmacy regarding a client having filled prescriptions for her father who was incarcerated at the time.
Employees said Meredith was in the store on Aug. 1 with a prescription for Percocet for her father, David Meredith. This prescription along with 14 other monthly prescriptions were filled and signed for by Amber Meredith. Several weeks later, they learned that he had been incarcerated for a probation violation.
They were later able to confirm he was arrested July 14 and placed in the Jefferson County Jail. He was then transferred to state prison on July 18.
When police spoke with Amber Meredith on Sept. 4, she admitted to picking up the prescription from the doctor without telling him her father was in state prison.
She also admitted to filling the prescriptions without telling them of her father’s status. She stated she knew her father was in prison at the time and the prison would not accept the medication.
She claimed she took the scripts home and locked them in a safe. When she checked on them on Sept. 3 she realized the safe along with the prescriptions had been stolen from her home.
There were 15 prescriptions filled at a total cost of $1,304.94. These were paid for by Medicare.
