State Police: Missing Canoers Found Safe

Rescue crews from several fire departments from across three counties met at the Karthaus Fire Department Sunday morning to search for two missing canoers. The search began Saturday night and resumed around 8 a.m. Sunday. The canoers were located and found to be unharmed. The pair was reported missing after a miscommunication with a family member.

CLEARFIELD COUNTY – Two missing canoers, Kenneth L. Drew, 32, and Laura Drew, 28, both of Bellefonte, were located at approximately 11 a.m. Sunday, reported the state police at Clearfield.

According to state police, the couple started their canoe trip at approximately 10:30 a.m. Saturday in the Shawville area. They had plans to canoe the Susquehanna River to the Karthaus area.

The couple had arranged to be picked up at approximately 6-6:30 p.m. However, the couple didn’t arrive at the scheduled location, which activated the search, state police said.

Search crews canvased the Susquehanna River for the couple with four rescue boats. Additional search crews walked along the river banks. The couple was found safe, according to state police.
