Patino Accused of Lying to Police to Avoid Arrest

DUBOIS – A homeless woman is accused of lying to police to avoid arrest.

According to an affidavit of probable cause filed with District Judge Patrick Ford’s office May 8, Brandy Marie Patino, 28, no address provides, is charged by the DuBois City police with providing false identification to law enforcement.

According to the affidavit, officers from the police department received information that Patino was staying in a room at a local hotel. Patino had an active mental health warrant as well as an active bench warrant from Jefferson County Probation.

The officers arrived at the motel and knocked on the door of the room. A female asked what the officers needed and the officers responded that then needed to talk to Brandy. The voice replied that there was no Brandy present and they must have the wrong room.

The officers then re-identified themselves and said they needed to speak to Brandy. Again, the voice said there was no Brandy present and that she had just rented the room a few hours ago. The officers said they had a warrant for Brandy Patino and that they needed to speak with her.

The woman inside the room again said there was no Brandy there and that her name was “Amy Anderson.”

After continuing to deny there was a Brandy present, the officers became concerned the woman would attempt to climb out a window and sent two officers around the other side of the building. While the officers were out back, they saw a woman look out the window.

The officers at the door of the room again said they had a warrant for Brandy Patino and asked the woman inside the room to come out and show them some identification if she wanted them to go away.

The door to the room opened, and the woman inside allegedly admitted to being Patino. She allegedly told police that she didn’t want to go to jail.

The officers told her it was illegal to provide a false name to law enforcement officers and Patino allegedly said she knew what she did was illegal, but she did not want to go back to jail. Patino was then taken into custody without further incident.
