Alfonso Ribeiro named new host of ‘America’s Funniest Videos’

His classic TV show may have run on NBC, but ABC loves themselves some Alfonso Ribeiro.

The “Fresh Prince of Bel Air” star appeared Tuesday night on the finale of “Dancing With the Stars” where it was announced that he would be the new host of “America’s Funniest Videos.”

It was a natural venue for the reveal, given that Ribeiro won the trophy last season on ABC’s hit dancing show and will be taking over “AFV” from Tom Bergeron, who also hosts “DWTS.”

Bergeron announced his successor to a cheering crowd after Ribeiro performed with fellow season 19 competitor Sadie Robertson.

“You know what, Tom, you have given me so much love and support in doing this,” Ribeiro told Bergeron, who hosted “AFV” for 15 years. “I’m so proud.”

Bergeron joked about a now-famous incident in which Ribeiro’s season 19 partner, Witney Carson, accidentally kneed the actor in the groin during rehearsal.

In offering advice on his new hosting duties, Bergeron said to Ribeiro, “I only have one thing to say, and you already know this from having to dance with Witney: Wear a cup!”
