2nd Marine dies from injuries in Hawaii training incident

A second Marine has died from injuries suffered Sunday when an MV-22 Osprey experienced a “hard landing mishap” at Bellows Air Force Station in Hawaii.

The Marines said Lance Cpl. Matthew J. Determan, 21, of Maricopa, Arizona, died Tuesday.

The Marines had already identified the first Marine, Lance Cpl. Joshua E. Barron, 24, of Spokane, Washington.

Twenty-two Marines were on board the military aircraft. Two Marines remain hospitalized, but are in stable condition, the Marines said.

The Marines were conducting “routine sustainment training” at the time of the incident. The cause was not immediately clear. An investigation is underway.
