REYNOLDSVILLE – Jeff Tech Adult Education, in collaboration with the North Central Workforce Investment Board and DuBois, Punxsutawney and Clearfield Career Link, put together and trained a group of seven students in the basics of machining.

Funding for this training program was provided through the North Central Workforce Investment Board and the PA Department of Labor and Industry’s industry partnership funding.  The goal was to provide these seven individuals with a skills set that would help them become more employable.

Participants had to meet prequalification requirements to attend the program, which was determined by their career link counselors.  Students then came to Jeff Tech Machine shop from April 13-24 for 40 hours of training in basic machining.

The hands-on training was taught by Jeff Tech Machine shop Instructor, Richard Hoare.  Hands-on topics covered were: Lathe and CNC machining, use of surface grinders, vertical mills, reading and using precision measuring tools and die setting basics.

Students also simultaneously did an online self-study segment thru a program called “Tooling U.” Online studies covered topics, such as basic measurements, ISO 9000, Introduction to OSHA,  lock out/tag out procedures, basics of tolerance, to name a few.

After hands-on training was completed, students gathered at the DuBois Career Link to update their resumes to reflect on the new skills learned.  On April 29, approximately 10 employers from the region participated in an interview process with each student.

Following the interview process, a final luncheon with the students, employers, Career Link and North Central staff was held.  Jeff Tech’s Adult Education Coordinator Megan Bundy presented the students with their certificates of program completion at the luncheon.
