Ella Madeline “Madie” Read Kubista, 93, a resident of Loyalhanna Care Center in Latrobe and formerly of Greensburg and Curwensville, died Friday, May 15, 2015 at the center.

Born March 31, 1922 in Lawrence Township, Clearfield County, she was the daughter of Alvin “Duckett” and Lona Alice (McGaughey) Borst.

Mrs. Kubista was a homemaker. She was retired from the Curwensville Area School District in the Custodian Department.

She was a member of the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church in Curwensville, where she was a member of the Altar and Rosary Society.

She was first wed to Homer Read on June 25, 1938. He preceded her in death on Sept. 19, 1966.

On Oct. 25, 1968, she then wed Peter T. Kubista. He preceded her in death on Oct. 4, 2002.

In addition, she was preceded in death by her parents; three sisters, Annie Ogden, Vera Thompson and Iva Mae Graham; and three brothers, Robert, James and LeRoy Borst.

Surviving are two daughters, Sue Leonard and her husband, Dr. Gene Leonard of Greensburg and Cheryl Custaney and her husband the Rev. Deacon John Custaney of Morrisdale.

Also surviving are four grandchildren, Laura Leonard of Lawrence, Amy Ryder and her husband, Colonel Patrick, USAF of Lithia, Fla., Cheryl Marie Phillips and her husband, Bill of Tyrone and Christopher Custaney and his wife, Sue of Clearfield; five great-grandchildren, Austin and Christian Ryder and Haley, Connor and Colby Custaney; and a brother, Orvis Borst of Glen Richey.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. Saturday at the St. Timothy Roman Catholic Church, Curwensville, with the Rev. Father Mark J. Mastrian as celebrant.  Burial will be in the Crown Crest Memorial Park in Hyde.

Friends will be received from 4:30 p.m. – 8:30 p.m. Friday at the Chester C. Chidboy Funeral Home Inc., Curwensville, and again from 9:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. Saturday when the procession will depart for the church.

The Rosary will be recited by members of St. Timothy’s Altar and Rosary Society at 4:30 p.m. and a Scripture Vigil Service will be conducted at 8:15 p.m., both Friday at the funeral home.

The family suggests contributions be made to either the St. Vincent Seminary, 300 Fraser Purchase Rd., Latrobe, PA  15650 or to the St. Benedict Roman Catholic Church, 260 Bruno Rd., Greensburg, PA  15601.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to the staff at the Loyalhanna Care Center in Latrobe for their wonderful care of their mother, grandmother and great-grandmother during her stay there.
