Jeb Bush’s wife Columba joins Twitter

Columba Bush, the publicity-averse wife of potential presidential candidate Jeb Bush, is supporting the “right to rise” … on Twitter.

The former first lady of Florida joined the microblogging service on Friday and was quickly verified.

Bush, whose handle is @ColumbaBush, posted her first tweet just after 2 p.m., touting an Iowa initiative combating domestic violence and helping survivors of abuse. She has passionately advocated for the cause, which is personal to her, as she witnessed her father abuse her mother growing up.

And it’s worth noting that she didn’t use her first tweet to tout just any domestic violence group, but one based in Iowa, the first caucus state in the presidential nominating process.

She notes on her Twitter bio that she is an “advocate for Domestic Violence and Drug Prevention, the Arts” and links to her husband’s political action committee, Right to Rise PAC.

Her husband is expected to launch a presidential campaign in the coming months, which would shoot Columba into the spotlight she has for so long sought to avoid.

But on Friday, she took her latest step closer to that glare.
