HARRISBURG – Legislation legalizing the use of cannabis extracts to relieve pain and suffering of patients with cancer, diabetes, seizures and other medical conditions passed the Senate and now heads to the House of Representatives for consideration, according to state Sen. John Wozniak (D-Cambria.)

Wozniak issued the following statement following the 40-7 Senate vote on Senate Bill 3.  Wozniak is a strong supporter of the measure:

“The use of cannabis extracts to relieve pain and suffering for patients who have serious medical issues is an important part of pain management.  The legislation would legalize its use and allow doctors to prescribe the therapy for pain relief and address other medical needs.

“Patients suffering from chronic pain, cancer, diabetes, seizures and other medical conditions could access cannabis extracts to address suffering.  The legislation was carefully developed to ensure that proper protections were included to avoid abuses.  Access is tightly controlled and strictly regulated.

“The legislation provides a way for patients and families to secure relief.  I am hopeful the state House will move on the measure quickly.”
